What to look for in a home video tour

Use a video walkthrough to compare layouts, outdoor space and the questions you want to ask before booking a viewing.

Follow the flow of the rooms

Watch how the entrance, living areas, kitchen and bedrooms connect. Think about your furniture and how you use each space: somewhere to work, room to host or a quieter corner for reading.

Pause at transitions between rooms. A walkthrough can give you a better sense of the layout than individual photographs, but ask for measurements where a precise fit matters.

Look beyond the living room

Take note of storage, utility areas, bathrooms and staff accommodation. If a room or part of the property is not shown, add it to your list of questions.

Where a home has several tours, watch each one. A second video may focus on the garden, an outbuilding or a different part of the interior.

Notice the outdoor space

Look at the entrance, parking and the relationship between the house and garden. Ask whether the outdoor areas are private or shared, and who takes care of maintenance.

Turn your shortlist into a viewing

A video records a home at a particular moment. Confirm current availability and ask about anything that may have changed since filming.

Bring your questions to an in-person viewing. Experience the light, sound and surroundings yourself, and check the features that matter to your everyday life.
